The Museum
of the Inquisition and Congress is located on the old premises of the National
Senate. It was created on July 26th 1968. It has the mission of preserving and
publicizing Peruvian culture, and highlighting the importance of the Congress
of the Repuclic.
The Museum
is one of the main museums in Peru. It is one of the most visited and best
museums in the world. It is in one of the old buildings in the city, which is a
national monument.
This
building is as old as the beginning of Lima. This old construction is part of
the cultural heritage in Peru, and it has belonged to the Congress of the
Republic since the First Congress of Peru.
Its rooms
were used for the Chamber of Deputies meetings, and when you visit the museum
you can see where they sat. Some of the members lived there as well. Later the
building belonged to the National Senate, until 1939, when that chamber moved
to Legislative Palace. Shortly afterwards, the Public Library of the Chamber of
Deputies (1943) and finally, the Congress Museum (1968-to date) also worked
there.
The public
can visit the museum and see all of the room, and it is one of the most visited
museums in. In 2006 240,690 people visited, while from 1992 to 2006, 3’043,409
people visited.

years, the Museum of the Inquisition researched, preserved, and exhibited information
for the general public, about the history of Peru, the inquisition and
congress.
